Parenthood for Dummies
Being a father is a wild ride. My name is Christopher & these are my observations, theories & comments on life as the dad of my two boys Ripley & Jayden. I write this to air my thoughts & update my friends & family with photos, videos and such like. For everyone else I offer hints and tips on parenting as I learn them. For legal reasons I make no direct reference to my employer or any of my colleagues.

High Point_: Lots More Walking
I am sitting here - it is too late to be up really - but I needed to put pixel to screen about his walking. Today he was moving about with real intent. I saw him, for the first time, walking to get somewhere - not just to hear our praise. I can't really express how it makes me feel, "Heart-warming" was just an expression until today. I have booked some holiday for next week so I can spend more time with him during his waking & walking hours.
Listening to "f**ker" by the Eels (sorry for the censorship) - Ever listen to a song you didn't like then suddenly it clicks into your psyche and makes sense. It is a great song, much more tender than the name suggests, and the Eels are a really great group.
Off to bed now, just in time to see him wake up...

Misc_: My Photography Site
Seeing as this blog gets quite a few visits, where better to plug my photography site.
Christopher Howarth Photography
Just a small gallery of a few shots that I like, thrown up on the web when I think to do it.
Photography has been a hobby of mine for many years and now that I have a Digital SLR I find I am much more snap happy. Once in a while a shot will come along with some real artistic merit - in my humble opinion :)
Progress Update_: More Walking
Well, he is 11 months and 9 days old and he is getting pretty good at walking, the record so far is about 8 steps before falling over laughing and clapping. We cheer him all the way and he likes the attention.
Helping a baby take his first steps is a lot like setting a slinky spring toy off down a flight of stairs, sometimes it will do a few steps, then other times it makes it all the way down to the bottom. You get that same feeling of enormous satisfaction when he makes it from one side of the room to the other. Also you can tell it really boosts his confidence with every single step.

Photo_: Penny & Ripley Mid Morning Nap
Penny & Ripley Mid Morning Nap - Around 11am they both get pretty tired. This is the view on a typical Saturday morning for me. Black and White - how arty :)
Observation_: Babies and Washing Machines
Get out of there! - Seriously, what is it with Babies and washing machines. Whenever he is in the kitchen he points his finger at the washer and attempts to say "round and round" - cute. This is him attempting to spin the drum around, cautiously peering around every so often to make sure he hasn't been caught :)

Observation_: Baby going off his food
We found out this little fact the hard way. We couldn't figure out why Rip stopped enjoying the foods he used to love. He wouldn't eat and then would get hungry and upset at strange times of the day.
After a bit of research it came down to two issues.
Firstly - he is teething
Secondly - most importantly he wanted to do it himself.
He is now into self feeding, even to the extent of using a spoon to eat sloppy foods (quite messy). It has changed the way we feed him and also what we feed him. Penny now has the added challenge of making nutritious food that is easy to handle.
The weird thing is that his favourite food is now.... Asparagus! Yuk. He goes crazy for it. He even does a little excited wiggly dance when he eats it which always makes me laugh.
High Point_: Web Popularity
I must say I am shocked! I have been running various website about loads of different subjects for years. I installed some web statistic software on my server and discovered this blog page gets a lot of unique hits!
I honestly thought this blog was primarily visited by my friends and family, but now I see it is a highly ranked blog with lots of subscribers.
I also noted that just the word 'Ripley' typed into a google image search will show my Ripley who apparently outranks that other Ripley (believe it or not) and Ms Weavers alien arse kick character.
I haven't written much on this blog lately, it has mainly been a photo journal of Ripley's development. I will try and write more to keep it interesting and hopefully informative.
Thanks again to all my visitors!
